The investigatory powers tribunal heard from Privacy International after it unearthed new details that allege the U.K.’s spy agencies are circumventing legal data sharing laws, the Guardian reports. Continuing a three-year-old case, PI claims the legal oversight system for MI5 and MI6 is illegal, as is the bulk sharing of data sets with foreign intelligence services and other partners. James Eadie, who represents the Foreign Office, Home Office and intelligence agencies, denied the data sharing was illegal and said, “It is neither confirmed nor denied whether the [agencies] share or have agreed to share bulk personal data and bulk communications data with foreign partners and [other agencies] or (in the case of [MI6] and MI5) with industry partners.”
