As digital currency rises in popularity so are privacy fears, Wired reports. Researchers at Sweden’s Riksbank said digital transactions need to be tracked to prevent fraudulent activity, making it impossible to ensure privacy and leaving the potential for leaks. “What if the end result is a surveilled bank account system?” Willamette University Professor of Law Rohan Grey asked. “Suddenly now you’re talking about building a monetary system where every transaction could be stored as data and create a robust social graph of the United States.”
