Tokyo, Japan–based company DeepScore claims its facial recognition and voice application can determine a person’s trustworthiness, raising alarm for privacy and human rights experts, Vice reports. The app analyzes facial muscular twitches and voice changes to make its determination. Human Rights Watch Senior Researcher Amos Toh said “there is simply no reliable science” to indicate the algorithm’s accuracy, while Privacy International Legal Officer Ioannis Kouvakas questioned whether the app meets EU General Data Protection Regulation requirements.
