The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada along with provincial privacy authorities agreed on a resolution to ensure a secured digital health care infrastructure for all Canadians. With their joint resolution, regulators seek to "phase out the use of unencrypted email and fax communication in favour of more secure alternatives." They'll also require new systems to have improved data governance frameworks while proposing updates to federal and provincial privacy laws to bring "meaningful penalties" for failures to protect sensitive health data.
