The Offices of the Privacy Commissioner and of the BC and Alberta Information and Privacy Commissioners have created new guidelines for BYOD programs, Vancouver Sun reports. “Allowing employees to use their mobile phones, tablets and laptop computers for both personal and professional use carries significant privacy risk—particularly when one world collides with the other,” said Privacy Commissioner Daniel Therrien, adding, “Companies need to consider the risks in advance and prepare to manage them effectively. Only then could they conclude whether a BYOD program is right for them.” A Privacy This Week report suggests the commissioners may use the guidance as a benchmark.
