A group of more than 50 organizations called on the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to take action against corporate surveillance, Gizmodo reports. The groups asked the FTC to “ban corporate use of facial surveillance technology, ban continuous surveillance in places of public accommodation, and stop industry-wide data abuse.” A spokesperson declined to say whether the FTC would support or consider a facial recognition ban and, when asked if the commission had the authority to do so, said “We don’t have any comment.”
