Gizmodo reports health care app GoodRx, which tracks prescription drug prices, shares the personal information of its estimated 10 million users with third-party websites. Gizmodo Privacy Reporter Shoshana Wodinsky's research found the app was transmitting her personal data, including prescription information, location data and other sensitive data, to four third-party companies. GoodRx's work and subsequent data practices are not covered under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. "Nothing happening here is illegal, it’s just taking advantage of the system," Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Hined Rafeh said.
