The Canadian Press reports on how political parties have responded since Bill C-76 went into effect. The bill requires political parties to post privacy policies onto their websites that state what types of information they collect and how it is collected and protected. All the parties have adhered to Bill C-76; however, they also have not implemented any of Privacy Commissioner of Canada Daniel Therrien's voluntary privacy measures, such as giving citizens' access to their data and being more transparent about how personal data is used. Privacy and Access Council of Canada President Sharon Polsky said political parties are only paying lip service to the notion of protecting privacy by only following the requirements of Bill C-76.
