More than 90 policy and rights groups are calling on Apple to abandon its plans to scan users’ iCloud accounts for “Child Sexual Abuse Materials,” Reuters reports. In an open letter, the groups expressed concerns the capability will be used to “censor protected speech, threaten the privacy and security of people around the world, and have disastrous consequences for many children.” Some overseas groups are concerned about the impact in nations with different legal systems.
