Wired reports U.S. law enforcement increased its requests for personal data from manufacturers of smart devices and wearables to use for investigations. Amazon reported 3,000 police requests for data in the first six months of 2020, and the Big Tech company granted nearly 2,000 of them. The requests represent a 24% increase from the same period last year and 72% from that span in 2016. Despite the high compliance rate for requests, an Amazon spokesperson said the company "objects to overbroad or otherwise inappropriate demands" from law enforcement.
