When the Ontario Legislature resumes its sitting in September, it will be looking at the Police Record Checks Reform Act 2015, which would limit the types of information disclosed in response to records check requests and bring greater uniformity to records checks. In this Privacy Tracker post, Timothy Banks, CIPP/C, examines “what a police records check will include and what it won’t when you request a police records check on a current or prospective employee or volunteer.” The bill has broad support and “is a direct response to concerns about the practice of releasing non-conviction information and mental health information as part of criminal record checks,” reports Banks.
