Acting Australian Information Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim is warning the operators of Australia’s largest loyalty schemes of upcoming evaluations of their privacy frameworks, iTnews reports. While speaking at a privacy awareness week event, Pilgrim said his office will be hosting the reviews over the next year, but did not name who would be subjected to the inspections. Pilgrim’s office has already examined the points programs by supermarket chains Coles and Woolworths. Pilgrim noted an investigation doesn’t mean there are any suspicions of illicit behavior. “Being the subject of a privacy assessment does not necessarily mean there is anything untoward going on,” he said. “Our assessments are vital to providing consumer and public transparency to how our individual privacy rights are being protected and respected.”
