Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim is also taking on the role of acting Australian information commissioner, Computerworld reports. Pilgrim will assume the additional role following the upcoming resignation of Information Commissioner John McMillan, who has been appointed to a two-year term as acting NSW ombudsman. “Pilgrim will carry out the functions and exercise the information commissioner's powers under the Privacy Act 1988, Freedom of Information Act 1982 and the Australian Information Commissioner Act 2010,” the report states. Meanwhile, IT News reports Queensland’s government “has opened recruitment to hire a state privacy commissioner after its last statutory appointment to the role left in December 2011.”
