A phishing attack compromised 55,851 Snapchat accounts, The Verge reports. A compromised account sent a link to thousands of Snapchat users mimicking the app’s login screen. A U.K. official alerted the company after a publicly available list containing usernames and passwords was found on the phishing website klkviral.org. Snap reset the majority of the accounts following the breach and alerted affected individuals that their passwords had been reset. “While we can’t prevent people from sharing their Snapchat credentials with third parties, we do have advanced defenses to detect and prevent suspicious activity. We encourage Snapchatters to always use strong passwords, enable login verification, and never use third-party apps or plugins,” a Snap spokesman said.
