Petvation created an improved smart pet door that only allows the owner’s animals in and keeps other critters out, Gizmodo reports. Prior versions of smart pet doors utilized the RFID chips embedded in many house pets that help locate the animals if they go missing. However, Petvation’s smart pet door uses an “array of infrared cameras” on both sides of an external door that read and identify a person’s pet based on appearance. Machine learning lets the system determine when an animal wants to go outside.
