As the world looks to track the spread of COVID-19, contact tracing apps have become a tool some believe may help in tracking the disease. "The apps are here now and their impact on privacy and civil liberties will depend heavily on their design and the conditions for their use," writes University of California, Berkeley Law Professor Paul Schwartz. In this Privacy Perspectives piece, Schwartz looks at the contact tracing app debates around the world and offers his thoughts on how big of a role the technology should actually play in monitoring the pandemic.
