Rosa Barcelo

Squire Patton Boggs announced Rosa Barcelo has joined the firm as deputy co-chair of the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group in the Brussels office. Barcelo will advise clients on a range of issues, including compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation, ePrivacy Directive and national implementation laws. Most recently, Barcelo served as deputy head of the Cybersecurity and Digital Privacy Unit of DG CNECT in the European Commission. Brian Hartnett, office managing partner of the Squire Patton Boggs Brussels office, said, “Rosa has acquired a distinguished career as one of the most prominent data protection and cybersecurity experts in the European Union. We have invested heavily in building a leading practice in this area and Rosa’s addition is another significant step for us.”

Mike Capote, CIPT

Provider of integrated receivables solutions DadeSystems announced Mike Capote, CIPT, joined as the new chief information officer. In this position, Capote will oversee information security, client services and cloud operation. Most recently, Capote was partner and management consultant at ProPrivatas. DadeSystems President and CEO Bill Zayas said, “We are fortunate to have a strong industry veteran as part of our management team,” adding, “Mike’s diverse background is important as we meet the corporate governance standards of our customers and partners.”

Ashlen Cherry

Epsilon announced Ashlen Cherry has joined as the company’s chief privacy officer. In her role, Cherry will oversee all ongoing activities related to the global development, implementation, maintenance of and adherence to privacy and data protection programs. General Counsel Lisa Gallerano said, “Privacy has always been important to us, and today it is becoming more complex than ever. At Epsilon, we required a savvy leader who understands the art and science of delivering value via data-driven marketing experiences, while adhering to privacy laws and respecting consumer preferences.” 

Sarah Zhao

Sarah Zhao joined BakerHostetler’s privacy and data protection team as a partner in the Washington office. Zhao will focus on cross-border data transfer issues, privacy and cybersecurity issues involving China. Previously, Zhao served as partner at Faegre Baker Daniels. Ted Kobus, head of BakerHostetler’s privacy and data protection team, said, “The addition of Sarah to our team provides us with an opportunity to seamlessly assist our clients doing business in China with insights, experience, and local contacts of a former staff member of the current Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China.”
