Rep. Frank Pallone, D-N.J., has asked the Government Accountability Office to conduct a study on the "status of broadband privacy regulatory authority over both ISPs" and so-called edge providers, Multichannel News reports. Pallone discusses both the two-pronged oversight from the Federal Communications Commission with ISPs, and edge providers with the Federal Trade Commission, as well as the "fluctuating state of the law and underlying threats to individuals' privacy and security online," the report states. In the letter to GAO Comptroller General Gene Dodaro, Pallone asked for answers to questions on which companies are collecting what types of data, how companies are disclosing their privacy policies, and if consumers have control of this collection, among others.
