Canada’s proposed Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2022 could be an improvement to the proposed Bill C-11 introduced in 2020, writes nNovation counsel Florence So. Also known as C-27, So highlighted the three statutes that would be enacted if the bill is passed: the Consumer Privacy Protection Act, the Personal Information and Data Protection Tribunal Act, and the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act. So said the CPPA “lifts some burden from the individual to understand and give consent,” while the Personal Information and Data Protection Tribunal Act would empower a new tribunal to impose penalties for violations of the CPPA.
