Sensitive user data and communication have been vulnerable to employees of huge platforms since the beginning of social media, Vice reports. At the height of its popularity, Myspace used the "Overlord" tool to moderate the platform and comply with various law enforcement requests. The tool, which was unreported, also enabled employees to access user login and messages without authorization. "Ten years or more ago, we were trying to find the best way to handle not only the power we had and the capabilities we had, but how to use it with respect and with respect to privacy and security of our users," said Hemanshu Nigam, Myspace’s chief security officer from 2006 to 2010.
