The Wall Street Journal reports on the challenges businesses face as they prepare for the California Consumer Privacy Act. Organizations will have to answer data subject access requests; however, many of the organizations that will be covered by the CCPA may be entering uncharted territory. “You have to find a way to capture all that information and track it so you know what’s happening with that information,” said Gap Associate General Counsel Dan Koslofsky, CIPP/US. “Unless you’ve been in a regulated space like health care or financial services, you probably haven’t done that previously.” DLA Piper Principal Rena Mears said most businesses her firm has interacted with have chosen to apply the CCPA to all their customers rather than maintain separate rules for California citizens.
