The Financial Times reports on the challenges companies are facing as they attempt to respond to data subject access requests now that the EU General Data Protection Regulation is in effect. Since the May 25 implementation date, retailers, banks, media outlets and tech companies have seen a surge in requests that continue to stay at a high level in part due to the Cambridge Analytica revelations. “We saw a manyfold increase in contacts to my office,” Facebook Data Protection Officer Stephen Deadman said. “It spiked [after the GDPR] and has halved on a weekly basis since; we’ll see whether it continues or stabilises.” The high amount of requests has prompted hotel chain Marriott to ask for a one-month response period to catch up to the inquires. (Registration may be required to access this story.) Editor's Note: The IAPP Privacy Tech Vendor Report features a number of vendors that provide DSAR services.
