In an op-ed originally for The Hill Times, Privacy Commissioner of Canada Daniel Therrien explains how society's move to digitize in the wake of COVID-19 must include privacy considerations. "We must urgently consider how to derive the value of data while respecting our democratic values and fundamental rights," Therrien writes. He also notes the OPC's proposed reform to "recognize privacy as a fundamental human right, but one that is not absolute," noting that Canada "has fallen behind" with respect to data protection.
