As part of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada's 2022-2023 annual report, the regulator consulted Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada about its online passport application project, Find Biometrics reports. The intention of the pilot initiative is to streamline passport renewals by using facial recognition to verify photos already stored in an IRCC database. The report also touched on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's use of Clearview AI's facial recognition database, which the OPC was satisfied with the RCMP's "compliance measures."
