Following the cyberattack on New Zealand’s Waikato District Health Board and others, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner posted a blog on cyberattacks and cryptocurrency. Online criminals target cryptocurrency “because it is very hard to trace,” said the post. They also favor encrypted messaging applications for concealing crimes. Online criminals “make foolish decisions that impact on their privacy and the privacy of others,” serving as a “warning that the online world is a minefield full of false promises and traps for the unwary.”
