The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and Global Privacy Assembly are calling for stronger privacy protections in facial recognition technology and artificial intelligence. During the GPA’s 2020 Closed Session, the OPC co-sponsored resolutions calling on governments, authorities and others to work together to strengthen data protection and ensure compliance and accountability. The resolutions “highlight the importance of legal frameworks that allow technologies to produce benefits in the public interest while also preserving the fundamental right to privacy,” according to the report.
