The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada released its annual report Thursday, covering its work between April 1, 2016, to March 31, 2017, under both the Privacy Act and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. While there are several take-aways within the weighty document, IAPP Canada Managing Director Kris Klein, CIPP/C, CIPM, FIP, raises some issues to the fore in this piece for The Privacy Advisor, including the OPC's requests for fining powers and rule-making powers. Commissioner Daniel Therrien also provided information on the state of consent in Canada, how he'd like to see privacy notices improve, and guidance on working with underage Canadians.
