In an op-ed for The Globe and Mail, University of Ottawa Canada Internet and E-Commerce Law Research Chair Michael Geist writes health and location tracking via cellphones and social media may help to limit the spread of COVID-19 but also raises “difficult challenges” in balancing health concerns with fundamental privacy rights. Geist adds safeguards should be developed “to ensure that any measures are minimally privacy invasive, temporary and subject to full oversight.”
