In an op-ed for AdExchanger, Verve Chief Technology Officer Brian Crook writes how software development kits could help publishers and advertisers, particularly as the U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office cracks down on the advertising technology industry’s data practices. Crook writes SDKs should serve as a governance layer, as it may help publishers and advertisers obtain consent for real-time bidding. “SDKs give stakeholders a better look at data and a better opportunity to market to the consumer. It is also the place where we must already obtain consumer consent,” Crook writes. “A logical extension of this is that the SDK could also serve the consumer and the end publisher by governing the data usage ... and thus providing a safer proxy to the consumer context, all without sharing user data to external and potentially vulnerable cloud environments.”
