The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Automated Vehicles Policy leaves too many questions unanswered as cars become increasingly connected and privacy concerns grow, Lysa Myers writes in an op-ed for The Christian Science Monitor's Passcode. "Unfortunately, this new automated vehicle policy inherits vague verbiage [from] the associated problems with the Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights," she states. "American motorists deserve better. If we can't come up with acceptable and clearer privacy standards for cars soon, drivers will simply remain lost when it comes to privacy on the road." Myers tackles specific points from the policy, like the line, "use data only in ways that are consistent with the purposes for which it was originally collected." She contends the idea is "dicey" as "there's no commonly accepted use yet of driver data."
