In an article for VentureBeat, Never Stop Marketing CEO Jeremy Epstein writes about his experience using CLEAR, a system that relies on biometric data to prove a traveler’s identity at the airport. Admitting that he was forgoing privacy for convenience, Epstein writes about his realization that as programs like CLEAR and Global Entry become more popular among travelers, it is only a matter of time before they suffer a data breach and that “the consequences will be unknown and far-reaching.” Epstein turns to the incorporation of blockchain technology as a solution to the threat facing global personal identity systems, adding that as the technology grows, “it will enable solutions that are orders of magnitude superior and will more effectively balance the need for biometric data as unique identifiers with the need for maximum security of that biometric data to protect individuals.”
