In an op-ed for Gizmodo, reporter Shoshana Wodinsky said while a draft bipartisan U.S. data privacy bill is a positive step for Americans’ data protection, the American Data Privacy and Protection Act is not without loopholes. “It carves out exemptions for bad bosses and law enforcement officials, while letting data brokers continue buying and selling vast amounts of our personal data with impunity,” she said. Wodinsky shares “gripes” with the draft as written, including its definition of “data,” exemptions for law enforcement and its protections around employee data.
