In an op-ed for the European Council on Foreign Relations, Policy Fellow Ulrike Esther Franke writes the EU's discussions regarding various artificial intelligence issues must translate into collaborative action. Franke deemed 2019 a "crucial year" for addressing AI topics, adding many countries had separate discussions on ethical uses and regulation. Franke notes EU nations should now use 2020 "to make good on their rhetoric and for the EU to harmonise various national approaches, thereby turning declarations of intent about international cooperation into real projects."
