In an op-ed for The New York Times, Technology Columnist Kevin Roose writes instead of considering a ban on TikTok, the U.S. government could ensure the social media app acts responsibly through regulation. While a national security review is underway, “there is plenty more the U.S. government could do to ensure that TikTok plays a responsible role in our information ecosystem without getting rid of it altogether,” Roose writes, like requiring regular audits of data collection practices.
