If a report from the Business Council of Canada is any indication, updating the country's privacy law could be a "rough ride," University of Ottawa Faculty of Law Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-Commerce Law Michael Geist writes in an op-ed for The Globe and Mail. While the need to reform Canada’s privacy law is "increasingly urgent," the business establishment could be a barrier as the council’s recommendations "consistently advocate for a cautious approach that would leave Canada lagging behind."
