In an Op-Ed for Lawfare, David Hoffman and Riccardo Masucci applaud the nomination of Adam Klein as chairman of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, adding that a well-qualified chairman will allow the administration to rapidly nominate and appoint three additional members so the board can be fully staffed. Hoffman and Masucci write that the PCLOB, a bipartisan government agency within the executive branch, supports many important functions related to citizens’ privacy and national security and has helped to ensure that the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield works effectively. The authors add that the first review of Shield is scheduled for this month, and the PCLOB has a critical role to play in keeping this instrument effective.
