The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has named Kathryn Marchesini as its new chief privacy officer, FierceHealthcare reports. Deven McGraw, former deputy director of health information policy, said Marchesini is “an excellent choice.” McGraw also said Marchesini "knows privacy and security so well,” adding, “And she is really good about trying to understand what the private sector is dealing with.” Most recently, Marchesini served as a senior health information technology and privacy adviser at the Office for Civil Rights. The announcement followed criticism that the office lacked a commitment to find a replacement for the position that was previously left vacant for nearly three months.
