ZDNet reports the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the National Security Agency have released the sixth edition of the "Statistical Transparency Report Regarding Use of National Security Authorities." The report offers a review of the use of warrants and law enforcement activities under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978. This year's report shows 9,637 warrantless queries were made for U.S. citizen communications data from NSA databases in 2018. The number of queries is up from 7,512 in 2017. The report also reveals the number of foreign organizations or individuals that were targeted under Section 702 of FISA jumped from 129,080 to 164,770, while the number of U.S. phone call records collected dropped by nearly 100 million.
