Center for Democracy and Technology President and CEO Nuala O’Connor, CIPP/G, CIPP/US, said on an episode of Recode Decode she believes the tech industry will eventually face a set of rules to regulate its use of data. While O’Connor thinks those rules will come down the line, she said tech is “not in a good place right now. I am short-term, a little pessimistic, but long-term optimistic that there’ll be enough public pressure ... and ultimately government action to constrain some of the worst uses.” O’Connor also discussed the prospects of a federal U.S. privacy law appearing in 2019 and her concerns about online free speech.
