The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner is taking legal action against Facebook in Federal Court, alleging it violated Australia's Privacy Act 1988 and left the personal data of 311,127 users exposed. The OAIC alleges from March 2014 to May 2015, Facebook disclosed users’ personal information to the This is Your Digital Life app, risking the exposure of that information to Cambridge Analytica for political profiling. “Facebook’s default settings facilitated the disclosure of personal information, including sensitive information, at the expense of privacy,” Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk said.
