In a submission to the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee on the Online Safety Bill 2021, Australian Information Commissioner Angelene Falk acknowledged its aim to “keep Australians safe online so that the substantial benefits that come from using the internet can be realised.” She recommended additional measures within the bill to enable a coordinated approach between the OAIC and eSafety Commissioner that will ensure “the distinct but complementary roles of privacy and online safety work effectively and comprehensively to address online risks and harms.”
