The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner said the number of data breaches reported during the first half of the year, including the COVID-19 pandemic, has fallen slightly, but ransomware attacks and impersonation attempts have increased, iTWire reports. From January to June, 518 breaches were reported compared to 532 in the previous six-month period. The leading cause of data breaches involving personal information remains to be malicious or criminal attacks, the OAIC reports.
