New Zealand Privacy Commissioner John Edwards said he was seeking additional enforcement provisions as part of an overhaul of the country’s 25-year-old privacy law, which is now being considered by Parliament, Reuters reports. Edwards is expected to request strengthened powers, including the ability to take companies to court and seek fines. Meanwhile, InternetNZ has submitted a request to Parliament responding to the new Privacy Bill, which it believes would make it more effective, including the adoption of ideas from the EU General Data Protection Regulation and aligning a data breach notification program to those of the European Union and Australia.
