New Zealand Privacy Commissioner John Edwards urged the government to increase funding in order to support the new Privacy Bill, Stuff reports. Speaking to members of the Justice Select Committee, Edwards said, "I wanted to flag early for you that we cannot do what Parliament asks of us under the new privacy bill within the estimates that are currently out …" While the current annual grant was enough to operate the Privacy Act, Edwards argued it would not cover the operating costs of the Privacy Bill.
