New South Wales Attorney General Mark Speakman said he is committed to introducing a requirement that government agencies report data breaches to affected individuals and the privacy commissioner, iTnews reports. Agencies are encouraged but not required to do this under the existing Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act. A review by the Department of Communities and Justice found “overwhelming public support” for mandatory data breach reporting. Speakman said “an appropriate model for NSW” is being developed.
