A New South Wales Parliamentary Committee is probing the Information and Privacy Commission over a lack of a mandatory data breach notification system, Government News reports. The Department of Communities and Justice issued a proposal for a mandatory scheme July 2019, and the government approved its rollout in 2020. Information and Privacy Commissioner Samantha Gavel told the committee the current voluntary reporting scheme yielded a 23% increase in reports over the last year but acknowledged the IPC and DCJ are drawing up a mandatory scheme.
