The Mandarin reports New South Wales Information Commissioner Elizabeth Tydd has issued guidance to local councils regarding the disclosure of personal financial interests. The councils had recently announced plans to remove such financial information from registers before Tydd reminded councils of their obligations to be transparent and accountable. "These are strong factors in favour of disclosure particularly in the local government sector where decisions impact the everyday lives of people," Tydd said. "Those factors must be balanced against factors against disclosure including privacy. However, declarations of business interests will not necessarily disclose any information impacting personal privacy."
