The Hill reports on the uncertain fate of President Barack Obama’s proposal to reform the National Security Agency (NSA) bulk collection of phone records. “I think working through all those things, and given the president’s general reluctance to weigh in very heavily on this issue, means that things are going to be tough to move forward,” said American Enterprise Institute’s Gary Schmitt. New America Foundation Open Technology Institute’s Kevin Bankston said, “Although this proposal represents a landmark shift in the debate … it is only focusing on one symptom of the NSA’s overreach rather than promising a cure for the much broader problem of bulk data collection.” On Sunday’s Meet the Press, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) discussed the White House’s plan.
