The National Privacy Commission of the Philippines announced the House of Representatives Committee on Information and Communications Technology approved a substitute bill to amend the Data Privacy Act of 2012. The bill seeks to update the definition of sensitive information to include biometric, genetic and political affiliation data while further outlining the extraterritorial scope of the law. Additionally, the bill would further empower the NPC to bring action against violators, including the introduction of a fine scheme.
