Last week, data protection authorities voiced concern about Google’s implementation of the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) “right to be forgotten (RTBF)” ruling, and Article 29 Working Party Chairwoman Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin stated, “There has been a climate of controversy that’s been entertained in order to maybe endanger the right to be forgotten … It has led some people to say that the right to be forgotten leads to censorship of the press, which is not the case.”

This week, the RTBF is once again in the headlines, as highlighted in our synopses below of a story about the UK House of Lords Home Affairs, Health and Education EU Subcommittee saying the RTBF “has to go” and a report about a letter from the Center for Democracy & Technology’s Nuala O’Connor, CIPP/US, CIPP/G,  stating, "It is the responsibility of governments, including the courts and the data protection authorities, to provide clear guidelines to the companies charged with implementing the CJEU's decision."

But in this summer season where privacy has not taken a holiday, the CJEU’s ruling is just one of many stories in the news.

Also this week, the European Society of Medical Oncologists is seeking changes to the Draft General Data Protection Regulation, citing risks to medical research if the current draft becomes law. And big data was the focus of a workshop for the European Data Protection Supervisor and of a UK Information Commissioner’s report.

There’s no shortage of privacy news below for your weekend reading!
